Your initial consultation is an opportunity to meet your therapist, discuss what brought you in for therapy. It is a chance for you to get a feel for whether your therapist is a good fit for your needs. Decades of research show that lasting change is the result of three essential ingredients: a warm, trusting relationship where you feel understood, a safe space where you can share your thoughts and feelings, and the opportunity to gain insight into your experience. By the end of the consultation, we will talk to you about our fit as a therapist and hopefully schedule an appointment to start the assessment process.
During the first 1-2 sessions we will take you through an assessment: we take time to delve more deeply into what brought you into therapy, how your experiences have shaped who you are, and what changes you want to create in your life.
Getting to know you helps ensure that we are on the same page and ready to collaborate on your goals. You and your therapist will work closely to create a set of specific goals for your therapeutic journey, as well as plan for how to achieve those goals.
Once you have completed the assessment phase, you will then meet with your therapist regularly to work on the goals you have set. Therapy is the pathway to change that helps you feel better and engage more fully in life.
