Daylen Gonzales, MSW, LSWAIC, MHP, CDPT

(She/Her/Hers)

I began my career in community mental health and substance abuse programs over 12 years ago because I saw so many people around me, myself included, struggle to get the support and help they needed and deserved.  I became a social worker because I believe wholeheartedly in the ethics of the profession and have a strong focus on social justice and advocacy.  I’m a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and have been a community educator and advocate for many years.  I’m Kink and Poly friendly and Gender affirming.

I received my BSW from Portland State University and my MSW from University of Washington.  My experience includes working with behavioral support residential settings, family preservation and reunification programs, substance use and co-occurring disorders, working with survivors of domestic violence, crisis intervention and safety planning for the National Suicide Hotline, working with gender variant individuals across the life-span, transition age youth, adults with chronic mental illness, and speaking at conferences and universities regarding best practices for working with LGBTQIA+ youth.

I believe in a systemic, interactive, and solution focused therapeutic approach.  My goal as a therapist is to form an alliance with each individual, couple, and family to identify opportunities for growth, highlight and utilize existing strengths, and offer support in achieve their unique and personal goals.  I integrate complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client, couple, and family, utilizing theories such as family systems, cognitive behavior, social learning, and psychosocial development.

I was born in Tacoma and although I have moved throughout the country during my lifetime, my heart has always been with the Pacific Northwest.  I’ve been with my partner for nearly 10 years and we have 3 wonderful dogs: Cosmo, Rodger, and Willum.  I often absentmindedly knit and taught myself in my early 20’s, starting and ripping out projects while watching daytime TV with my grandmother.  I love music, art, and being surrounded by creative and musical people. My home is the site of loud and gritty band practices every week.
